Windows 10 Home and Pro are built from the same installation image — which edition you get is determined entirely by the product key you activate with. That means upgrading from Home to Pro doesn't require reinstalling anything; it's just a key swap, and slmgr can do it in two commands.

- A PC currently running Windows 10 Home
- A genuine Windows 10 Pro upgrade key
- Administrator access to Command Prompt
- An internet connection
1.Open an elevated Command Prompt
Right-click Start and choose "Terminal (Admin)" or "Command Prompt (Admin)."
2.Install the Pro key
Run: slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX using your Windows 10 Pro key.
3.Activate
Run: slmgr /ato
Windows validates the key, switches the installed edition to Pro, and then prompts for a restart to finish applying Pro-only features and settings.
4.Restart
Save any open work and restart when prompted. The edition change only fully takes effect after this reboot.
Confirm the edition changed
After restarting, go to Settings > System > About and check the "Edition" field — it should now read "Windows 10 Pro" instead of "Windows 10 Home." Settings > Update & Security > Activation should also show as activated.
